Ask yourself: “Is there more to life than what I’m experiencing now?”
If the answer is “Yes” or even “Probably”—read on!
Languishing vs. Flourishing
Early in my conversations with men, I often ask:
“Would you say you are languishing or flourishing?”
Most pause for a moment, then say something like:
“Well… probably more languishing than flourishing.”
That’s no surprise. You’re more likely to seek therapy when life feels flat or stuck.
Signs of Languishing
You might notice:
Feeling “blah”
Low energy, enthusiasm, or motivation
Foggy or unfocused thinking
A sense of being stuck or going nowhere
Lack of passion or engagement in work or life
Often, this comes with relationship struggles, but other factors include work stress, unresolved issues from the past, or ongoing anxiety, depression, or rumination — those negative thoughts looping endlessly in your mind.
Who I Work With
Many of the men I see are in their 20s, 30s, and 40s, though I work with all ages.
What they have in common is the courage to shine a light on what’s going on — and to share it with someone who isn’t a friend, partner, sibling, parent, or workmate.
That step alone can be a game-changer.
The Journey Forward
From there, we start a journey:
Awareness — uncovering the patterns and pressures that fuel those feelings of languishing.
Change — exploring new ways of thinking, responding, and living.
It’s a process, not a one-off event. Though yes, the occasional “aha!” moment does happen!
